Well written. At first I could not get past the first three paragraphs. Your view is nuanced. I corrected myself by following you all the way through. But I cannot help wondering if AI and its effects are not a symptom of one of the most bureaucratic societies to ever exist? If AI serves an efficiency that the bureaucracy could never achieve alone? Who can blame them for grasping at it? Have you ever worked for the government before?

It almost destroyed me. All my values my character, my discipline…in service of something that only aimed to extract me…It was the only job I have ever quit in my entire life not knowing what I would do after. I felt carved, like a pumpkin with no ability to haunt. I felt I had no shape, nothing.

And yes, your writing is very nuanced which Is why I trusted you and read all the way through 🙂

Your writing is great! But I think what jarred me a bit (this is personal) is the assumption that the education system ever would care about anything any one person outside of it thinks about it.

I have not ever worked for the government actually but am a part of my generation who has been watched so many friends feel the ‘machinification’ and misalignment with their values so I try understand. Private Equity was the arena that tried to take my soul and turn me into the carved up pumpkin. Real question though, what about the first 3 paragraphs turned you off? I’m glad you kept going as almost all my takes are nuanced and easy to rip apart if you flatten them to a bumper sticker. I’m trying to figure out how to thread that needle in my writing but it’s tricky.
